Text Formatting using Special Indent

Text Formatting using Special Indent

In this topic, we will discuss about Text Formatting using Special Indent. In the earlier topic, we learnt how to indent the entire paragraph, either on the left or on the right side. In this topic, we will cover special types of indents, i.e., First Line Indent and Hanging Indent of a Paragraph.

Referring to the Graphic on your left, we are interested in the "Special" portion under "Indentation".

Under "Special", there are two options; First Line and Hanging. Both First Line and Hanging Indents affect the left of any paragraph.

In both the above cases, we can decide the amount of indenting through the "By" field in "Special".

Given below are examples of paragraphs where we have used Text Formatting using Special Indent, both for First Line as well as Hanging Indent.

1. Text Formatting with normal Left and Right Margin

Delta, the second-busiest airline in the United States, canceled its Sunday flights at Boston's Logan International Airport, New York's LaGuardia Airport and Newark-Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and T.F. Green International Airport outside Providence, Rhode Island. The airline also suspended Delta Shuttle operations between New York, Boston and Washington, spokeswoman Gina Laughlin said on Saturday night. She encouraged customers to change flights and check updated flight information on the company's Web site. The airline was offering only limited service at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and airports in Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Hartford, Connecticut, she said. Text Formatting using Special Indent is not active in this paragraph. This paragraph is with normal Left and Right Margins.

2. Text Formatting using Special Indent (First Line Indent)

3. Text Formatting using Special Indent (Hanging Indent)

I am sure that, the last topic on Paragraph Indenting, should have made this topic quite easy to learn.

Once you are through with this topic, see you soon on the next text formatting topic...
