This lesson explains how to Add Numbering to Word Document with step-by-step visual instructions.
This can be achieved in different ways. One method is to Add Numbering while we are typing the paragraph. Second method is to Add Numbering to several paragraphs at one go after the typing has been done.
In the first method, press this icon found in the Formatting Toolbar to add numbering before starting to type the paragraph.
In the second method, when you wish to Add Numbering to Word Document, use the same Icon as above, but before clicking it, highlight/create a block of several paragraphs that you have typed which needs to be numbered.
Another method to Add Numbering to Word Document is to use the Menu Bar. Using the option through the Menu Bar allows for greater flexibility.
Look at both the graphics below. You can reach Bullets and Numbering from the Menu Bar by going to the menu option Format.

There can be Numbered paragraphs or Outline Numbered paragraphs when you Add Numbering to Word Document.

Referring to both the Graphics above, None would mean "No Numbering". Or, we can select any of the other boxes which gives us the flexibility to select any numbering combination.
The grey checkboxes "Restart Numbering" and "Continue Previous List" allows you to specify whether you want a new list or you would like to continue with an existing list. These checkboxes will become active once you start with the numbering.
If you do not like the existing numbering templates available through the different boxes in the above graphics, then you are allowed to customize using the grey Customize button. We shall cover "Customize" in the Advanced Level.
